Productivity tips & time management hacks for #solopreneurs & small business owners
Having to do anything solo comes with a certain set of challenges. It’s never easy at best.
Being a small business owner myself, I find myself identifying with many of you out there doing it alone. Meeting and coaching solopreneurs and small business owners through my journey thus far, has uncovered a common denominator.
That denominator happens to be a highly precious commodity in my opinion. That’s because once it’s lost or wasted, you can never get it back. You’ve probably guessed it by now. I’m referring to TIME.
Sometimes it seems we can never find enough time in the day to get things done. Have you ever wished time was more like watching Netflix? Pause for a water break, then come back to resume watching. I wish.
It’s because of that linear nature of time; I endeavour to make the most out of my working hours. I do it by following simple productivity tips I’ve learned over the years. I’ve shared these proactivity tips with my clients when they seemed strapped for time.
The great feedback I’ve received so far has inspired this article, thus I wanted to share some of it with you the reader of this blog post. Hopefully it helps.
Use Productivity Tools and Applications

We’ve all suffered Mondayitis. You feel like you’re all over the shop. To help avoid falling into that pattern, I often spare an hour or so on Sunday night with a glass of wine in one hand, and a notebook in the other.
I simply write my thoughts down for the week ahead, and assign tasks to each day. This takes the anxiety out of the equation. It will help you wake up feeling refreshed knowing that you’ve got your to do list sorted.
Your brain won’t have to scramble trying to figure out what to do next.
Define business hours
The whole idea behind being a solopreneur or running your own business is to gain control over the hours you work. We don’t have to work around the clock just because we’re hyper connected and have 24 hours in the day.
I define my working hours, and clock out around 5:30 – 6:00pm everyday without fail. I also structure my daily working hours into blocks of two hours, usually interrupted by something fun like going to the gym, or having a coffee with a friend.
It’s important to remember that we work to live, not live to work. Make space in your day for things that matter, like nurturing relationships or looking after your health. It will reflect positively on you and subsequently on your business.
Learn to delegate
“If you want to go fast; go alone. If you want to go far; go together”. This is one of the best productivity tips I’ve ever heard to date.
Delegating some of the mundane aspects of your business is vital. Learning how to outsource some of your responsibilities to freelancers, will free you up to work on one of the most aspects of your business…running it.
I’ve learned to sacrifice some profit early on when I first started, and my business & I are happier for it.
